Investment Principles Commission

This bespoke bronze chess set was commissioned by a US-based hedge fund manager to translate an investment philosophy into a physical design object.
Starting from the familiar Staunton form, each chess piece was subtly reinterpreted through abstract sculptural details representing the principles that guide the firm’s approach to investing. These values were also discreetly inscribed at the base of each piece, creating a direct connection between the game of chess and the discipline of investment decision-making.

The concept reflects ideas central to the commission: strategic thinking, discipline and a long-term perspective. Much like chess, successful investing requires looking beyond the immediate move, assessing risk and opportunity, and making decisions with a wider objective in mind.
Produced in bronze, the finished set has the weight and permanence of a commemorative object while remaining fully functional, a personal expression of the firm’s philosophy designed equally for play and display.
