Celebrating Singapore's 60 years of independence
In 2025, Singapore celebrates a remarkable milestone: 60 years of independence. To mark this occasion, Abry, in partnership with the National Heritage Board of Singapore, has embarked on a unique collaboration that brings history, culture, and contemporary design into dialogue.
As an official partner of the National Heritage Board, Abry has been granted access to archival materials from Singapore’s national museums. This extraordinary access has enabled a thoughtful selection of images from the National Collection, chosen for their ability to capture pivotal moments in the nation’s cultural and industrial evolution.
From scenes of craftsmanship and labour to expressions of identity and everyday life, each photograph offers a textured glimpse into Singapore’s journey. Together, these images form a visual tapestry that honours the country’s resilience, creativity, and multicultural legacy. They are not merely historical records, but windows into the soul of a nation, stories that continue to resonate today.
To celebrate SG60, Abry collaborated with 30 international brands and 30 local brands, each invited to reinterpret these archival images through their own creative lens. The collaboration was officially unveiled at a media and press event hosted by the National Heritage Board on 4 August 2025, showcasing the breadth and depth of this collective tribute.
Inspired by Singapore’s National Collection and interpreted through contemporary eyes, the resulting creations celebrate the richness of Singaporean culture while fostering a renewed appreciation of its heritage. Each piece blends tradition and modernity, reflecting the nation’s unique history and its evolution into a vibrant, forward-looking society.
At the heart of this project lies a distinctive storytelling approach: the archival images are screen printed directly onto the board, transforming it into a narrative surface. Rather than serving as decoration, the imagery becomes an integral part of the object, a medium through which history is carried, experienced, and shared.
What emerges is a meaningful emblem of the Singaporean spirit. A piece that embodies stories, craftsmanship, and identity, connecting past, present, and future through design. In the hands of its owner, it becomes a lasting reminder of where Singapore has come from, and where it continues to go.
